Life Behind the Corgi: What It’s Like Being the Human Behind the Social Media Star

When I first started sharing Leia online, I never imagined I’d become a content creator. I was just trying to connect with other dog owners in Boston and share my cute new corgi with my family and friends. Somewhere along the way, those cute images became something more, and our weekend outings turned into content opportunities. Very quickly, our corner of the internet grew into a community that genuinely cared about what Leia from Boston was up to. And believe me, I get it! Between her signature corgi smile, sweet personality, and the ability to make just about anything entertaining, Leia has a way of stealing the show. What started as a fun way to document our lives evolved into brand partnerships, dog-friendly travel, and opportunities I never would have expected. The funny part is that while I technically manage the account, I’m not the main character in this story. I’m the sidekick to the real star.

Being the human behind a dog-focused account comes with more responsibility than I expected. I'm the photographer, videographer, editor, social media strategist, travel planner, and full-time treat dispenser. That seemingly effortless video of Leia exploring a cute little town? It involved researching dog-friendly locations, checking the weather, timing the lighting, filming about 42 takes, and hoping Leia would look generally in the camera's direction. There's a surprising amount of work that goes into making life with a dog look effortless online. And while I love the creative side, I'm also learning to balance creating content with still enjoying our adventures together. After all, the whole point is to live in those moments, not spend an entire afternoon trying to get the perfect shot of a dog who would rather eat something off the sidewalk.

One of the strangest parts of being a pet-focused content creator is figuring out how to explain what I do when my dog is the star. Technically, I'm the creator, the one who comes up with ideas and builds the business. But when someone asks what I do, it still feels a bit strange to say I'm a content creator whose corgi is the actual celebrity. I run a social media brand but mostly behind the camera, while my dog gets to be the face, the personality, and the reason people follow along.

But somewhere between the content calendars, editing sessions, and adventures planned around dog-friendly patios, I've realized that this little corner of the internet is about more than just a corgi. It's also about my perspective, my creativity, and the life we're building together. Leia might be the face of the account, but I'm the one dreaming up the ideas, finding new places to explore, telling our story, and figuring out how to turn a shared passion into something meaningful. It's a unique balance: learning to embrace being behind the scenes while also finding my own voice as a creator. Some days, the pressure to keep up with trends, grow an audience, and create consistently can make it easy to forget why I started. That’s when I remind myself that the best content often comes from the simplest moments. My goal is to always give Leia opportunities for big adventures and new things, and to be a dog first, not a character in a content strategy. At the end of the day, she may be the star of the show, but I'm happy to be the one who gets to take her along for the ride.
